Primary School

Access to primary education provides the foundation upon which the talents of a nation's youth may grow. There is a strong relationship between primary education and the promotion of such values as gender equality and social mobility.

Guatemala’s investment in education accounts for only 2.8 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP) which is far less than the regional average. This low investment in education means that the Guatemalan government provides limited support to primary schools. The Guatemalan government’s low funding results in a weak education system that depresses the learning outcomes of students.

Against this landscape of systemic underfunding, Partners for Guatemala Education works closely with the community of Santa María Tzejá to provide support for school supplies. Through this support Santa María Tzejá’s primary school is able to provide students with the tools necessary for a solid educational foundation.
